Raja Ampat, Indonesia
A place so surreal it can hardly be believed. Sailing through this myriad of islands for 12 days barely scratched the surface of one of the world’s last paradises, Raja Ampat. The name translates to “Four Kings” depicting the larger islands that make up the archipelago. Amidst the four kings are countless other islets strewn across the tranquil sea like stars in the night sky. This vantage point in Pieynamo is in the central region atop a karst limestone mountain. The turquoise lagoon below is home to a maze of passages and occasional villages inhabited by local people who sustain themselves entirely from the fruits of the sea. One lone ship can be seen anchored offshore, our connection to the civilization we left behind.
