Bring the Magic of Vail, Colorado Home: Fine Art Photography for Sale
Vail is a place of breathtaking beauty that captures the hearts of all who visit. My signature gallery, John Richter Photography based in the heart of Vail Village for close to 10 years was an ideal location to combine my love of photography with my love of skiing. I was lucky to be able to get out multiple days on the slopes to experience and capture blue bird powder days, snow covered peaks and snowy forests in Vail’s winter wonderland.

Epic Day
100 Limited Edition / 5 Artist Proof
From my experience skiing in the backcountry across the valley from the infamous ski slopes of Vail, I was aware of the beautiful views afforded from the Spraddle Creek trailhead, Not far from some of the valley's most luxurious properties I found this lovely view of Vail freshly coated with powder under vivid Colorado bluebird skies. Everything about this scene and the vibrance of the day felt pretty epic taking in one of North America's most coveted playgrounds!
The Gore Range
Open Edition
Having already explored the forested flanks of Bald Mountain on previous ski tours, I was excited when conditions came together for a winter summit. Climbing any summit in the middle of winter can be a challenge, especially when hauling a camera and tripod! As we ascended the summit ridge, frigid winds had sculpted the snow into a frozen miniature landscape unfolding into un-paralleled views of the Gore Range. The mountains often viewed from much further away took on a newly appreciated majesty I worked hard to capture. After enjoying the summit we pointed our skis downhill, hooting the whole way back to Vail!

Sun Down Bowl
The view from the scenic deck at the top of Chair 3 is arguably one of the best places to view the famous back bowls. I had to resist my temptation on this sleepy midweek powder day to carve my own fresh tracks in the blissful white powder to capture the majestic Mount of the Holy Cross shrouded in mystical icy clouds. These conditions sometime only last for a short time and are ever evolving which makes this moment such a special memory.

Last Chair
100 Limited Edition / 5 Artist Proof
The powder was deep on this memorable day skiing Vail. I had hauled my camera bag with me for several runs and was feeling the burn from all of the vertical feet and endless yews! Refusing to call it a day, I loaded Chair 10 for one last run as another wave of snowfall shrouded the view. There were just a few diehards left and I wanted to capture the lonely feeling of riding to the bell when most of the mountain had emptied out.
Winter Wonderland
100 Limited Edition / 5 Artist Proof
Sometimes getting lost is the best thing to happen to you. That was just the case on a very snowy January day when this image was captured. My wife and I were backcountry skiing in an area we knew little about near Vail, Colorado in the rugged Gore Range. After breaking trail for sometime through impossibly deep powder, we managed to gain a fair amount of elevation. Although, if you asked me to find this spot again I'm not sure I could. Just when we wanted to give up and find the nearest opening to ski down, I found this beautiful natural bench with a nicely undisturbed foreground of picture perfect powder. To the far right of this scene is set of animal tracks that is the only sign of habitation in this "Winter Wonderland"
Through the Trees
Open Edition- As an open edition this image has some flexibility that my limited edition pieces do not. I found this view to be spectacular as I skinned up the trail toward the summit of Bald Mountain and I plan to return again soon to try and capture something moodier. Order this image in canvas, metal, off sizes and cropped to your liking.

Vail 50
50 Limited Edition / 2 Artist Proof
Using my large format film camera, I headed over to Snag Park to shoot some of Vail's frontside runs underneath the jagged peaks of the Gore Range. This was January of Vail's 50th season and those who know the mountain well I knew would appreciate this vantage point! Although short in length, the turns from this ridge line can sometimes be the deepest on the mountain! From the two transparencies I exposed, I chose to print one in color and the other in B+W, leaning into the nostalgia of the opening season.

Snow Kissed
100 Limited Edition / 5 Artist Proof
This morning brought an unexpected transformation to the landscape. The leaves of autumn had just dropped and the scenery was reduced to browns and muted colors. With the arrival of snow I decided to head out onto a favorite local hike in the Vail area to visit some of my favorite aspen trees. Light can be elusive and this day brought such a unique quality it would seem impossible to replicate. Every branch, leaf and needle seemed to have been kissed by the snow.
